Rochdale town centre road closure affecting Metrolink services

(Published:18/3/2017)

Metrolink customers in the Rochdale area are advised that there will be some disruption to journeys until further notice.

Drake Street in Rochdale is currently closed to all traffic in both directions between Smith Street roundabout and Water Street due to reports of an unsafe building.

Metrolink services are unable to run between the Rochdale Railway Station stop and the Rochdale Town Centre stop while the road is closed.

A spokesperson for Transport for Greater Manchester said: “The closure of Drake Street has impacted Metrolink services on the Rochdale via Oldham line. Trams are turning at Rochdale Railway Station and will not run to the Rochdale Town Centre stop. This is to ensure the safety of our customers.

“We are advising customers to allow extra time for journeys while the road closure is in place. People who usually board Metrolink at Rochdale Town Centre should make their way to Rochdale Railway Station. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but unfortunately the road closure is beyond our control.”

Drake Street will remain closed until the building can be assessed by Rochdale Council officers. Customers are advised to check the Metrolink website or follow @MCRMetrolink on Twitter for updates.
