Manchester Airport
In May 2009, a special fund of £1.5 billion was agreed for 15 transport schemes in Greater Manchester including an additional line to run from Chorlton to Manchester Airport. Additional stops will be built at Barlow Moor Road, Hardy Farm, Sale Water Park, Northern Moor, Wythenshawe Park, Moor Road, Baguley, Roundthorn, Martinscroft, Haveley, Benchill, Crossacres, Wythenshawe town centre, Robinswood Road, Peel Hall, Shadowmoss, Woodhouse Park and Manchester Airport.
Design and advance work will begin in 2010 following an announcement in March. This work includes extensive surveys, detailed designs and the development of a programme for diverting utilities pipes and cables.
Passenger services to the airport are expected to begin in 2016.

Second city crossing
By the time we’ve finished the new extensions to MediaCityUK, Chorlton, Droylsden and Oldham and Rochdale we’ll have the largest tram network in the UK.
Future extensions funded by the Greater Manchester Transport Fund to East Didsbury, Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester Airport and Oldham and Rochdale town centres will further increase the numbers of trams passing through the city centre.
Because of this, we are working with Manchester City Council on proposals for a second Metrolink route across the city centre. The proposals form part of Manchester City Council/GMPTE’s wider transport strategy for Manchester city centre and will also be funded by the Greater Manchester Transport Fund.
A second Metrolink line across the city centre will provide greater access to a wider area of the city centre and will give us greater flexibility for operating our services on the extended network.
The new route would start at Manchester Central Convention Complex (G-Mex stop), run along Mount Street, Cross Street (around Albert Square) and Corporation Street to re-join the existing Metrolink line just outside Victoria Station.

Later this year we will hold a public consultation when we will invite you to comment on the project. To find out more please contact the Metrolink Second City Crossing team on 0161 244 1444 (office hours) or by email at 2CC.metrolink@gmpte.gov.uk
