Last autumn some clearance took place along the disused railway line to allow surveys of the area to take place. This area has been fully surveyed by ecologists for protected species and to record the number of trees in the area. As part of Transport for Greater Manchester's environmental policy, many more trees will be planted than will be removed.
Additional clearance, on the sides of the cutting, is now taking place to allow construction work to start. Trees will remain along the length of the cutting where it is possible for them to be retained.
This work will take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete, starting at Elsinore Road and working along the line to St Werburgh's Road. It will be closely monitored by environmental scientists and measures to safeguard protected species and offer improved wildlife habitats will also be put in place, having been agreed with Natural England, as appropriate.
