As well as extending the network, installing new ticket machines and introducing our new trams, we’ve been carrying out a number of improvements to the existing Metrolink network and stops.
City Centre
Between April – November 2009 we replaced around 9,000 metres of track – and, in partnership with Manchester City Council, installed all-new, high quality street finishes throughout the city centre.
The Piccadilly Gardens tram stop has been widened to give more room and better shelter facilities to even more passengers, and the St Peter’s Square stop has been heightened along its full length to give improved access and level boarding for double-length trams.
Altrincham line
During August 2009 we replaced the overhead lines on the Altrincham line and gave our stations a bit of a facelift. We’ve improved passenger facilities - cleaned up and repainted station buildings, installed new signage, seats and litter bins and ensured we provide the highest possible standards of accessibility.
We’ve introduced a brand new yellow and silver identity which you can now see on the Altrincham line and in the city centre.
Take a look at the improvements we’ve made to some of our existing stops shown here before and after the improvement work.
