Work on the new Abraham Moss stop in North Manchester started on Monday 18 October 2010 and is expected to be completed in early Spring 2011.
The new stop will serve a major regeneration area identified by Manchester City Council as a priority for housing renewal, including the Abraham Moss Centre, the local high school, college, library, leisure centre and theatre.
The Abraham Moss stop will also deliver improved spacing of the stops on the Bury line south of Crumpsall, enhancing overall access to public transport.
The stop will include a pedestrian track-level crossing similar to those at Deansgate-Castlefield and Old Trafford stops. It will be well-lit and covered by CCTV and will offer brand new facilities for passengers looking to access a wide range of local venues and services.

C Spencer Ltd was appointed in September 2010 to build the Abraham Moss stop.
Preparatory and site clearance work started on the 18 October 2010, including the closure of the footpath through Peg’s Arch underpass. A temporary diversion route through Greenstead Avenue, Greenhill Road and Crescent Road has been sign-posted around the site until the new stop opens.
Both the inbound and outbound stop platforms have been installed and blockwork to the front wall of the platform is underway.
Other pieces of work to be completed as part of the delivery of the stop include:
Due to safety reasons some of the construction works will have to be carried out when the trams are not running. This means we carried out some overnight works on weekdays and over certain weekends in October with some more planned in January 2011.
The new stop at Abraham Moss is proposed to replace the existing Woodlands Road stop, which is one of the least used on the Metrolink network.
The proposed closure of the Woodlands Road tram stop is currently going through a stop closure process. As part of the closure process the DfT (Department for Transport) will hold a period of public consultation to allow residents and interested parties to have their say.
The Abraham Moss stop is expected to be completed in early Spring 2011.
All construction work will be completed in accordance with Transport for Greater Manchester’s Code of Construction Practice. This includes measures to ensure that safety procedures are followed and to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses.
Throughout construction beware that construction sites can be dangerous places- sites are fenced in for the protection of the public. For your own safety do not try to access the worksite.
