Concession & child fares

Who is entitled to purchase a concessionary ticket?

Senior Citizens aged over 60 (men and women) who reside in the Greater Manchester area and
hold a current concessionary travel permit (commonly known as a bus pass) issued by GMPTE
(Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive). Should a Senior Citizen wish to travel before
09.30hrs a child single ticket should be purchased.

To apply for a permit, obtain an application form at your local council offices or GMPTE travelshops .
You will need to take with you a passport-sized photograph, proof of age, for example, your pension
book or Birth certificate and proof of where you live, for example your rent book or a recent Council Tax,
gas or electricity bill.

You may qualify for a Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel Permit which will allow you to travel
at the concessionary rate, if you live in Greater Manchester and:

To apply for this permit, application forms are available from Local Authority Information Centres,
GMPTE travelshops
or by post from GMPTE. You will need two passport-sized photographs.

Child fares

If you are aged 13-15 then you must be in possession of an ID-Minus 16 Permit issued by the
GMPTE t o purchase a Child fare ticket, without this you must purchase an Adult fare ticket for
the journey you are making.

Students

Students aged 16 to 19 must be in possession of a 16-19 Scholars Permit issued by the GMPTE and
in full time education (College Students only). However, the permit entitles the holder to travel on a child
ticket to and from School or College only and only during the school term.

Should it be necessary to vary your journey you will require a variance voucher, which can be obtained
from your school or college. At any other time you must purchase an Adult ticket.
