Tickets to travel on Metrolink must be purchased prior to boarding and travelling on the tram. Regular inspections take place and anyone found travelling not in possession of a valid ticket will be subject to an escalating standard fare illustrated in the table below.
For a passengers' first offence they will benefit from a reduction of the existing £20 to £15 within 21 days.
This is how it will work:
| 1st offence |
£10 on the spot or £15 within 21 days |
| 2nd offence |
£20 on the spot or £30 within 21 days |
| 3rd offence |
£40 on the spot or £60 within 21 days |
| 4th offence |
£80 on the spot or proceed to prosecution |
Each individual fare evader will be monitored through a database over a rolling twelve-month period.
Example:
1. If you get stopped by a Metrolink revenue inspector on 31st October and no other offence is committed for a full twelve months, you will return to a clean record.
2. If you get stopped by a Metrolink revenue inspector on 31st October and then again on the 3rd November in the same year you will be at the 2nd offence level and this will remain with you for a full twelve months before returning to a clean record.
At each level, the amount payable must be paid in full within 21 days. Failure to do so will result in prosecution through the Magistrates Court.
Please be aware that this new process does not cancel out any monies previously outstanding from existing offenders, they still have to be settled.
Please remember that Inspectors have a job to do and must adhere
to Company procedure. They must be consistent and issue a standard
fare to any person found to be traveling without a valid ticket. For
